Marbella, the preferred luxury summer destination

Louise Swan, July 2017 | Areas - Our view

We know that Marbella has been registering record tourist numbers in recent years, and that this applies to the mid to top end of the market, but a lot of people are enjoying themselves so much here that they are being lured away from other prestigious destinations.

The variety that Marbella offers both to visitors and residents gives rise to a highly diverse and cosmopolitan population. In addition to differences in their nationality, age and socio-economic composition there is also a great range of interests that draw people to these shores. The latter can range from traditional resort and beach-focused summer family holidays and sports enthusiasts who come here for the golf, tennis or water sports to those who wish to immerse themselves in the glamorous nightlife, entertain in style in a luxurious villa or do the exact opposite and enjoy peace and privacy.

Because of its setting and amenities, Marbella has a natural ability to cater to all of these preferences, including satisfying the demands of nature lovers who wish to explore the countryside or people keen on discovering the cultural and gastronomic delights of lively historic gems such as Málaga, Ronda, Granada, Córdoba, Sevilla, Jerez de la Frontera and Cádiz. Add winter sports in the Sierra Nevada and surfing in Tarifa and you can see why this region is so hotly desired by those who come to vacation, live or own a second residence.

Marbella offers a seductive mix of ingredients

All of this, against the background of a lively, cosmopolitan environment built upon a beguiling Andalusian culture, is highly seductive to those used to the colder climes and ways of the north. Moreover, this area offers good value, from socialising and dining out to the cost, maintenance and capital growth potential of the apartments, penthouses and villas for sale in Marbella. It’s especially true when compared with other luxury destinations such as the French Riviera, Tuscany, the Costa Smeralda and Mallorca.

But above all people come back because they enjoy themselves. “This year I’ve met quite a few prominent people who loved their summer here so much they commented to me that they are selling up in places like southern France and looking to buy in Marbella,” says Callum Swan. “They said the people are more welcoming, the weather better and the atmosphere more relaxed. Interestingly, these people spent almost all their time along the Golden Mile and in Marbella town, so there is still so much more for them to discover and enjoy.”
