Trendsetting coffee shops – a unique part of Marbella’s café society

The Mediterraneans have given the world Café Society, and Spain is one of the leading lights in this time-honoured tradition. Indeed, to relax, socialise and watch the world go by as you enjoy a cup of coffee is one of the simple pleasures of life in these parts. Marbella is no different, and while it offers the classic Spanish coffee shop environment where a menu of traditional coffee types can be enjoyed amid a lively atmosphere, this cosmopolitan resort town naturally adds its very own twist to the café society experience.

Marbella being the luxury resort town it is you will be able to satisfy a very wide range of coffee shop environments, from traditional to modern and highly exclusive. For the former the best spots are in classic Spanish areas such as the little cafés off the main Ricardo Soriano Avenue in the centre of Marbella or shaded squares in the Old Town. One of the most elegant of these is Goyo, where you can enjoy lovely pastries with coffee or tea in a refined setting.

Café society alternatives

The more contemporary café society experiences in Marbella centre upon the famous Golden Mile, whose palm-fringed avenue is home to some of the most exclusive coffee shops south of Madrid. Among them are Organic, a decidedly trendy spot where you can indulge in coffee, tea, cakes and snacks. As the name suggests, there is a strong focus on healthy, organic food, as is reflected by the earthy chic décor and fantastic detox juices.

Close by is the Creperie L’Orangerie of the Puente Romano, a very chic, very French variation on the theme that offers a Parisian-inspired setting in which to enjoy coffee, tea, cakes, macarons and, of course, pancakes. Set a little further along, near the casino across the road from Puerto Banús is Dezentral, another stylish, this time Scandinavian establishment that somehow turns the sweet temptations of a coffee shop into something healthy.

Perhaps the last word in Marbella’s sophisticated café society is Cappuccino, the beachside club style coffee shop that elevates the art of languidly yet stylishly enjoying a cup of superb coffee – perhaps accompanied by a slice of cake – under the Spanish sun to new heights.
